Stuart Kerr is Counsel for Africa at the international law firm Jones Day. He has 35 years of experience in law and international development. This includes 15 years as Executive Director of the International Law Institute, a 60 year old NGO active in over 175 countries, and 10 years as Legal and Regulatory Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the U.S. Government’s innovative international development agency. His work—in more than 50 countries—has focused on judicial reform, trade agreements, alternative dispute resolution, and anticorruption.
Stuart’s first visit to Kenya was in 1977, and he has returned to Africa to work on legal technical assistance projects throughout the continent over 30 times since then. He has served on the boards of academic organizations, foundations, NGOs, and bar groups in the U.S. and internationally. He speaks and publishes regularly on law and development issues.
